Free · Google Sheets
A free spending log for Google Sheets.
A row for each thing you buy or get paid, Tobsy’s categories to pick from, and a tab that adds up each month, with a chart. It is a plain Google Sheet: make a copy, and it is yours.
Making a copy puts it in your own Google Drive. You need a Google account and nothing else: no email, no sign-up with us.
What is in it
Five tabs, in this order.
How it stays yours
It is a plain Google Sheet in your own Drive. Nothing of ours runs in it: no script, no add-on, no connection back to Tobsy. Your copy belongs to you, and we cannot see it.
The only moving parts are ordinary formulas. The Months tab adds things up, and hidden columns on the Spending tab repeat each row in the shape Tobsy reads, so the sheet is ready to import when you want it to be.
No email, no account, no trial. If you stop using it, it is still a sheet with your entries in it.
When you want more
Tobsy (tobsy.app) is an app for the same habit. You fill it in by hand, and your entries stay in a Google Sheet in your own Drive. It shows where the money goes, how each category moves over the months, and the months ahead.
It brings this sheet across in one go. On the Spending tab (the download takes the tab you are on), choose File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv). Then in Tobsy, open Settings → Import and choose the file.
Importing again later leaves out the rows already brought across, so you can keep using this sheet and bring new rows over when you like. A row whose date or amount you change after importing comes across as a new row.
Tobsy is free for thirty days, then one payment. There is no subscription.
What comes across into Tobsy, and what stays here
- Categories match by name. Tobsy’s starting categories come across as typed, and a category you added arrives as one named group, placed with a single tap.
- The import goes most smoothly when the names here match the ones in your Tobsy. You see every row before anything is saved.
- The names in Where come across, and Tobsy learns which category each one goes with.
- A Refund comes across as a refund against its category.
- People come across by name: “You” is the person importing, a name that matches someone in your Tobsy is that person, and any other name is kept in the row’s note.
- Groups and intentions stay here. Tobsy has its own, which you set in the app.
