Set-up · about ten minutes, once
About ten minutes, once.
Six short steps, with a picture of every button before you have to find it. You’ll need a Google account, and any free one is fine.
Make your own copy
Open the Tobsy sheet and choose Make a copy.
Open the script inside it
In your copy, choose Extensions, then Apps Script.
Deploy it
Deploy, then New deployment, then Deploy again — change nothing in the box.
Say yes to the one permission
This is the only thing Tobsy asks for: this one spreadsheet, nothing else in your Google account.
Copy the app’s address
Take either Copy link.
Paste it, and Tobsy does the rest
It gets your sheet ready and opens — and on a computer, a code at the end sets up your phone with nothing to type.
What the guide looks like
The same page that does the set-up. Start there, and it walks you through — one picture of Google's own screens per step, so nothing has to be found by guessing.
The guide starts with your email — any address, it’s only where your set-up link goes — and your key is ready at once.
Things worth knowing before you start
Do I need a Google account?
Yes — your copy of Tobsy is a Google Sheet in your own Drive. A free one is fine.
Do I need to know spreadsheets?
No. You do not have to open the sheet — Tobsy writes to it and reads from it for you.
Why is there a set-up at all?
Because your data lives in your account, not ours. Tobsy trades ten minutes, once, for keeping your money off anyone’s server.
Can I set up on my phone only?
Yes — pick “On my phone” at the top of the guide and the steps change to match. It’s a little fiddlier than a computer, and the guide shows every screen.
What if I get stuck?
Each step has a picture of exactly what you should be seeing. If yours looks different, write to [email protected] with the step number and a screenshot, and a person will get you through it.
Two of us — do we both set up?
One of you makes the copy and sets it up. The other scans the code at the end (or pastes the link) and is in.
Can I have two copies?
One Tobsy, one key, one sheet. If you need a second copy — another household, say — write to [email protected] and we’ll sort it out by hand.
